《台湾百科全书·历史》的出版，历经10余年编纂，是《台湾百科全书》中最早推出的一卷。它通过词条形式讲清楚台湾历史的基本面貌，是一本内容详实、方便查阅的严肃读物。本书时间范围从史前文化延续至1949年，共有条目1369条，由概述性文章、正文、大事年表、索引四部分组成，总字数约96万。
